 SOCRATIC IRONY : THE HYPOCRISY OF ORGANISERS OF A COLLOQUIM AT ISIOKPO ,HEADQUARTERS OF IKWERRE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA ~ D.H ELUKE ( EZEOHA)

As one of the foot soldiers who worked for the birth of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's ( PBAT) presidency , under the aegis of the JAGABANIST MOVEMENT ( RIVERS JAGABANISTS) , as its state coordinator , I still receive some hot baked criticisms from friends and foes alike . Although I still have some reservations concerning that decision and in the words of former President Olusegun Obadanjo : " I have no regrets ", because once in a man's lifetime , he should either stand for something or stand for nothing . I chose to stand for something ! Also, I do not bear any personal grudges or grouses against the attendees or participants of the said programme but my worries stem from the blind eyes they turned against the major challenges confronting the LGA.

I had a cause to peruse the communique and took cognisance of the following underpinning points : a politically - packaged forum to celebrate the JAGABAN on his birthday ( though he wanted it on low keys ) and secondly , a rallying point of support for PBAT and his employee - Chief E. N Wike, minister of FCT . Again , I do not still have any " wahala " with this attention- seeking enterprise .

However,  I became more disturbed on the encomiums poured on the duo of PBAT and Nyerishi without any iota of appreciation or applause or recognition to the workaholic and peaceful governor of Rivers State ; Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara , in his support and patronage during the obsequies of Dr. Herbert Wigwe & others at Isiokpo. Herbert Wigwe lived as one of the greatest Iwhuruohna sons and prides. The governor pledged to continue in his support for sustenance of Wigwe's legacies ,especially , the Wigwe University Isiokpo . Is this not a commendable gesture ? Besides , the ongoing construction of 20,000 housing units at Mbodo Aluu is also situated at Ikwerre LGA . No mention was made of this ! The recent award of ELELE- OMUDIOGA- EGBEDA- OMOKU roads by the governor was not appreciated . HABA !!!!! . Something is fishy !

I know that even the blind could see that civil servants ( State & LGA) have breathed fresh air as promotion and new wages have been adequately addressed by the governor. Rivers retirees and pensioners are happier than ever before . Recruitments into different agencies of government and resuscitation of moribund firms such as the Songhai farms and Syringe factory at Rumuosi, the return of Rivers on Wheels ( RTC) among others . All these could not catch the attention of the organisers to commend the governor but they briskly sang to high heavens in eulogising the Jagaban and Nyerishi - okay- no problem !

Now, let us face the kernel of discussion of this piece . Ikwerre LGA has 12 communities of 13 political wards . How many of these are connected to the national grid today ? It has become imperative to halt this heresy . In this 21st century , there is a REIGN OF DARKNESS in Ikwerre LGA. Let this be on records that Ikwerre LGA has remained in TOTAL DARKNESS for about five years or even more ( no hyperbolic intentions ) . Yet, the organisers of this colloquium never thought it wise to invite some Eggheads from town and gown to deliberate and fashion out possible ways of tackling power deficiencies in our areas . If the budget is outside the jurisdiction of the council ( which I doubt ) , why not liaise with relevant stakeholders and government agencies that can be of help ? 

My thoughts , about the NDDC solar street lights across our communities , are that they would serve as short term measures and not the much needed long term sustainable measures needed in the LGA. I expected the organisers to have informed PBAT that our governor has performed excellently well as well as call on PBAT to direct relevant agencies of government to ensuring that power is restored in our areas . Power drives the economy . How can you talk about sustainable economy without adequate power supplies ? 

In all, it is high time, we stopped being political at all times in Ikwerre LGA and Rivers State . The elections have come and gone and winners emerged . I think all saner minds ought to do is to support the government of the day to run its fullest course and forget about playing politics all the time . A stitch in time , they say, saves nine . STOP THE CARGO CULT MENTALITY & MEDIOCRITY CULT !!!!
