 IGNORING HISTORY IS TO RELIVE THE TRAGEDY OF HISTORY ~ D. H ELUKE ( EZEOHA)

This aphorism that forms the building stones of this article is an emphasis on my statement elsewhere : " it is profitable to have knowledge but it is more profitable to have historical wisdom ". The historiography of past events remains germane in guiding our present activities and future ones .

Although as humans , we do not have such powers to change the past , but we can challenge it by using its experience or teachings to build on the present and the future . While yesterday was important , today is important and tomorrow will be more important . I do not want to be misconstrued as a philosopher  but just want to be philosophising as it concerns the happenstances in politics of Rivers State , especially , from the formative years of my former party - All Progressives Congress in Rivers State . I was a proud pioneer member - a founding interim ward chairman of ward 5 Kelga . Then, I led all other ward chairmen as secretary of ward chairmen forum . Before this , I was in the PDP but joined a former governor , Rt. Hon. C. R Amaechi to form, found and fund the APC. Then , all those heroworshipping  PBAT today , hurled stones and dangerous weapons at him and all other APC bigwigs ,who touched down here in solidarity visit to for governor Amaechi . 

Most conspicuously ,among the persecutors of believers of or loyalists of CRA, PMB and now, PBAT ,is no other person than the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre LGA ,Chief ( Hon) Engr. Samuel Osoruchi Nwanosike , PhD. Ishi Bambey deployed every machinery and arsenal within his reach or disposal to ensuring that the APC flag was not hoisted in Kelga . APC members were killed , maimed , tortured and brutalised ,at will as members of the NPF turned blind eyes at these heinous crimes or dastardly acts .

At different corners of the state : Omoku, Ikwerre, Okrika, Etche, Ogoni , Kalahari axis , members of the APC who believed in the Amaechi cause were considered and declared as outcasts and treated as such by meting out capital punishments on them .The major backbone of this onslaught against APC members was Nyerishi , Chief E. N Wike ( a former governor and now, minister of FCT). In Rivers State , it became a " sin" to sing or chant the ' change slogan' of the APC . According to the merchants of " excess power or power karila" , they did all that in protection of former President GEJ who was on a collision path or war against CRA.

All the elections held from 2015-2023 , not excluding the 3 reruns , were "gun plays " . Bloodthirsty cultists , militants and daredevil  armed robbers were armed to the teeth, to unleash untold mayhem on innocent citizens of Rivers State . Did they survive all that ? Your guess is as good as mine !

In what seemed as a reprieve ,former governor Wike consolidated his firm hold of the home front as governor while CRA did same at the centre as a super minister . Then, governor Wike made Rivers people think and believe that  " Abuja " politicians were " true " enemies of the state . And do you know what ?, he ( Wike ) is an " Abuja" politician today . Does this make him an enemy of the state ?

However , it is only an insane person who continues to do same things and expects different results . This is the real situation on ground now in Rivers State . As a former super minister , CRA facilitated the juicy appointments of Rivers people into offices at the centre . The same feat minister Wike is striving to replicate today . Then, supporters of CRA saw him as a demigod ,in the same manners , Nyerishi's supporters deify him now .

Besides , what baffles me ,now, is that all those who worked against APC from its formative years till date , are the folks reaping bountifully from an APC led government at centre ,thereby displacing and denigrating the labours of our heroes past ! The innocent blood spilt and severed heads ,at different locations in this State , are yearning for justice . When can this come ? Most regrettably , former PMB could not muster the guts or courage to constitute a panel of inquiry on electoral violence bearing in mind the countless and mindless killings of APC members in Rivers State by the same folks professing APC now. Can the Jagaban do this ? This is a poser because his body language appears to be in alignment with the perpetrators of these heinous crimes against humanity .

In conclusion , I reiterate the assertion of the Supreme Court of Nigeria ( 2015) that elections in Rivers State were wars . The Apex court avers : " Rivers State was a theatre of war , before , during and after the general elections " . This position informed the reason for relocation of election petitions  tribunal venues from Port Harcourt to Abuja . Now, what constitutes  theatre of wars ? What are the ingredients of wars ) Are they peace ,harmony , unity , progress and justice ? Or are they violence , bloodletting , gruesome killings , arsons etc? In this vein , I call on all and sundry to be on guards because history is about to repeat itself . Those who kicked against the imposition of governor Siminalayi Joe Fubara are the ones reaping where they did not sow while those who fought and killed for APC not to be formed are reaping from an APC led government . Is history not same as karma ?
